The Cambrian College Music Program began in 1973 and has continued to evolve since then. The program has always had an emphasis on performance, offering students opportunities to perform as a soloist or part of an ensemble.

The Diploma of Music Performance is a 3-year program. Often described as a music-immersion program, students learn to play several instruments and have frequent performances to build skills and confidence. Graduates of the program are well rounded; the emphasis on performance ensures you have the skills to perform with a strong background in theory, history and music business allowing you to confidently work in the industry upon graduation. This is your fast track to becoming an industry professional!­

Areas of Study

Each student has the opportunity to study a Major and Minor Instrument in the following areas:

  • Brass
  • Guitar
  • Piano
  • Percussion (drum kit and orchestral)
  • Strings
  • Voice
  • Woodwinds

Many graduates of the program choose to move to a university and will be admitted into the second or third year of a bachelor of music program, as Cambrian courses are received as transfer credits. *Minimum grade for a transfer credit is a C, with a GPA above 2.8.  Graduates may also begin working in the music industry as professional performers, private teachers, or in publishing or radio. The Cambrian College School of Music has great facilities and equipment with a highly qualified faculty, most of them nationally renowned as performers, adjudicators, and teachers.
